Highest power density claimed for AC/DC supplies

Ultra small AC/DC power supplies from Qualstar are said to provide the highest power density amongst commercially available devices at their rated output of 160W. The supplies, available from Luso Electronics, are said to be suitable for broadcast, storage and network products and for applications which require ‘significant power’ within a very small footprint.

With an overall height of 1.25in and 3 x 5in footprint, the XR160 is said to have a power density of 8.5W/in3 and to be suited for use by OEMs building products based on a 1U chassis. Compatible with N2Power XL160 units, the new range has a peak efficiency of 91%, generating less heat and requiring minimal forced air cooling.

Qualstar has also introduced the XR160RE, which adds remote enable and a 5V standby.
