‘Ultra fast’ output current devices
1 min read
Semtech has added the SC171 and SC172 buck converters to its EcoSpeed dc/dc converter platform. The 1 and 2A output current devices are designed to meet emerging green power requirements in networking and office automation equipment, power supply modules and POL applications.
Both devices incorporate Semtech's patented AOT architecture, which uses an advanced control loop to eliminate the need for loop compensation components and enables the use of ceramic input and output capacitors. According to the company, the units are programmable from 200kHz to 1MHz to enable designers to optimise their power supply and maximise either the conversion efficiency or the solution size. They also feature Semtech's proprietary SmartDrive technology - a two step, high side FET turn on technology designed to reduce EMI in noise sensitive applications.
Both devices are optimised to provide high efficiency across the entire load range, with up to 95% peak operating efficiency and selectable, ultrasonic power save. According to Semtech, when the load changes from standby to full load, the cycle by cycle response of the EcoSpeed architecture quickly exits PSAVE mode to provide fast wake up recovery time. To eliminate audible noise during standby, the ultrasonic PSAVE configuration is optimised to maintain switching frequencies above the 25kHz audible threshold.
