Wide input voltage HBLED driver controller IC
Analogue, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions specialist, Micrel Semiconductor has launched the MIC3203, a new step down high brightness LED (HBLED) driver controller IC with high-side current sense and PWM dithering feature for EMI control.
The device is designed to reduce the complexity and cost of LED driver solutions for high current MR-16 lamps, track/pathway lighting and other architectural lighting applications.
According to Micrel, the MIC3203 is capable of driving multiple HBLEDs in series at more than 90% efficiency with +/-5% current accuracy from input voltages of 4.5 to 42V.
It features hysteretic control architecture and a high-side current sense scheme and is suitable to drive the HBLEDs with constant current. Its operating frequency is adjustable up to 1.5MHz and it features a dedicated PWM dimming pin, an enable pin for very low power shutdown, over temperature protection and an under voltage lockout.
The MIC3203 has an external power switch and requires no external compensation. In addition to enhanced power driving capability and reliability, it is available in an SOIC-8L package.
