Large format ShadowSense™ Touch Screen family for signage and DOOH applications
1 min read
andersDX, the user interface technology specialist, has announced that revolutionary optical touch technology Shadowsense™, which works uniquely by tracking the position of shadows, has now been extended into large format sizes from 32"-85" specifically targeting the interactive digital signage and digital out-of-home (DOOH) markets.
Developed by touch sensing specialist Baanto, ShadowSense™ is a robust, perimeter based technology which delivers responsive (less than 6ms), highly accurate multi-touch and gesture recognition, and supports any input type including fingers, gloved hands and stylus. User Experience is further enhanced by providing touch detection of small objects and accidental touch recognition.
Large format ShadowSense™ touch screen models have been matched to market requirements and will include 32", 40", 42", 46", 47", 50", 55", 60", 65", 70", 80" and 85" sizes, all of which have been designed to support the standard TFT LCD sizes currently available in the market and being used in commercial applications.
In addition, each of the new models will feature advanced ShadowSense Performance Features (SPF) that include SPF SnapCount™ and SPF SizeAlert™. SnapCount provides real-time tracking of up to six touchpoints without slowing down the user application while SizeAlert real time touch point size calculation allows developers to create new and innovative use models as well as implement palm and spurious touch rejection. Multi-touch, any input type detection is provided by SPF RealTouch™, while SPF-10K™ technology provides immunity to ambient light of up to 10,000 foot-candles (107600 lumens). This is roughly equivalent to being outdoors at noon at the equator.
"Thanks to smart phones and tablets users have pre-conceived expectations for large format touchscreens despite clearly different use models," comments andersDX CEO Rob Anders. "Accurate and responsive touch must be combined with an enhanced ability to identify spurious touch points such as palms, elbows or clothing touching the screen. Large format ShadowSense technology provides a cost-effective solution to these challenges at the same time as addressing requirements for usability in high ambient light conditions and protection against accidental or malicious damage, fluids and dust."
"The demand for interactivity in the digital signage arena is exploding", according to Joe Kotas, Baanto CEO. "A key challenge in generating revenue for digital signage deployments is simple – show the advertisers that a campaign is working. Touch-enabled displays are the most cost effective way of identifying and tracking user interaction with the ad content. Interactivity coupled with lower display prices in the 32" to 80" sizes is causing the number and diversity of deployments to increase rapidly. Baanto's new products, which include the ShadowSense Performance Features or SPF attributes, will make such deployments more reliable, more robust and much more engaging."
