Acquisition enhances ARM’s portfolio
ARM has acquired Swedish video ip company, Logipard in an effort to offer an energy efficient and high performance multi-standard video engine.
The acquisition adds video and imaging technology to the company’s portfolio.
Arm’s vp and gm, media processing division, Lance Howarth, said: “Video acceleration and processing technologies have become critical for the development of many consumer electronics products, complementing the ARM Cortex cpu and ARM Mali gpu ip already incorporated into many high performance mobile devices. Through the adoption of Mali-VE technology, arm partners will be able to complement their use of ARM graphics and cpu ip to deliver more efficient SoC solutions, whilst reducing risk and accelerating time-to-market.”
ARM’s Mali-VE architecture supports the majority of video coded fomats and provides encode and decode capabilities for image resolutions from QCIF up to high definition.
