Apple previews iOS 6 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Apple has previewed its new iOS 6 mobile operating system which will be available as a free upgrade to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users later this year.
The company claims the OS includes over 200 new features, such as improved Facebook integration, iCloud photo sharing and a Passbook app that lets users keep track of tickets and boarding passes and scan their device to use them.
Additionally, Google Maps has been replaced by Apple's own vector graphics Maps app which provides 3d views and real time traffic updates. Given the availability of 4G in certain countries, the company has also opted to extend FaceTime beyond WiFi to cellular networks.
Siri has been upgraded with additional language support and a new 'Eyes Free' mode. Apple is reportedly working with car manufacturers to integrate Siri into voice control systems for connected cars.
"iOS 6 continues the rapid pace of innovation that is helping Apple reinvent the phone and create the iPad category, delivering the best mobile experience available on any device," said Scott Forstall, Apple's senior vice president of iOS software. "We can't wait for hundreds of millions of iOS users to experience the incredible new features in iOS 6 including the new Maps app, expanded Siri support, deep Facebook integration, Shared Photo Streams and the innovative new Passbook app."
