Cambridge Design Partnership (CDP) has announced a major investment to expand facilities at its Cambridge base, as well as the appointment of two new partners.

The investment is in a new building on a site adjacent to CDP's offices. Due to be completed in October, the new R&D centre will provide state of the art laboratories, prototyping workshops and user facilities, together with a conference facility able to accommodate more than 100 delegates. The centre will be opened officially in early 2014. Meanwhile, James Baker and Ben Strutt have been appointed as partners as part of a move to build the company's management capability and as a commitment to sustaining future growth plans. Baker is a senior electronics engineer, who has worked at CDP since 2007, while Strutt joined CDP two years ago, having held innovation roles in Dyson and Black & Decker. Alongside building a new R&D centre, CDP has added an office in Palo Alto. In the last year, 19 staff have joined the company. "Recently, we have seen an increasing level of enquiries from blue chip customers looking to accelerate their innovation pipelines," said Mike Cane, CDP's founder. "When our new R&D facility opens later this year, we will be able to offer an increasing range of specialist product development capabilities. In short, we will have the specialist capabilities international customers expect from a leading world class R&D provider."
