Collaboration set to extend electric vehicle range

Perpetuus Carbon Group and OXIS Energy are to collaborate on the development of graphene enabled electrodes for the next generation of lithium sulphur (LiS) battery technology.
Using proprietary plasma technology, Perpetuus can insert molecules into layered solids such as graphene to enrich electrode materials. When used with OXIS' LiS battery technology, these electrodes will enable high performance batteries with energy densities in the order of 400Whr/kg. This is said by the companies to be 'significantly higher' than current Li-ion batteries can achieve and will enable cars to undertake journeys of up to 500 miles on one battery charge.
Huw Hampson Jones, OXIS' CEO, said: "Perpetuus can produce industrial quantities of the nano engineered electrode materials that will significantly extend the cycle life of LiS batteries."
John Buckland, Perpetuus' CEO, added: "There is no doubt that OXIS' LiS technology has the ability to be significantly better than current Li-ion batteries. I hope this collaboration will pave the way for the UK to be the centre of LiS battery manufacturing.
"In the coming months, we hope to announce collaboration and development agreements with other UK businesses using our nano surface engineered graphene materials."
