MediaTek has launched the MT6795, a 64bit SoC targeted at LTE based smartphones. Described by the company as its 'flagship smartphone SoC', the device features support for 2K displays and is said to help phone makers to 'leap into the Android 64bit era'.
"MediaTek has once again demonstrated leading engineering capabilities by delivering breakthrough technology and time to market advantage that enable limitless opportunities for our partners and end users, while setting the bar even higher for our competition," said Jeffrey Ju, general manager of MediaTek's smartphone business unit. "With a complete 64bit LTE SoC product portfolio, we are firmly on track to lead the industry in delivering premium mobile user experiences for years to come."
With eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores, each running at up to 2.2GHz, the SoC also has a dual channel LPDDR3 memory interface clocked at 933MHz.
The SoC is said to support displays of up to 2560 x 1600pixels as well as providing 1080p HD video at 480frame/s.
MediaTek says the SoC supports Rel. 9 Category 4 FDD and TDD LTE, which suggests the immediate market for the MT6795 will be China, and adds that devices featuring the SoC will be available by the end of 2014.
