Fujitsu invests in Tensilica

Fujitsu has made an unspecified 'strategic' investment in IP specialist Tensilica, the developer of customisable processor cores.
"We've been working with the best engineers at Fujitsu for more than two years as they've been designing their LTE products for next generation mobile phones," stated Jack Guedj, pictured, Tensilica's president and ceo. "We are honoured that Fujitsu has decided to make a strategic investment out of its corporate venture capital fund. We will be working closely with them to find other chip design projects that can benefit from our technology."

Minoru Sakata, president of Fujitsu's Mobile Phones Unit, added: "Tensilica's customisable dataplane processors help us get maximum performance with the lowest possible power in high throughput, signal processing intensive mobile wireless devices." Tensilica's dataplane processors (dpus) range from small, micro control and signal processors to benchmark topping dsps. DPUs are a combination of cpu and dsp that, says Tensilica, can be customised to provide up to 100 times the performance of standard cpus and dsps.
