Ground broken for new warehouse
Avnet Logistics has broken ground in the construction of a new warehouse in Poing. With a total capacity of almost 32,000 sq. m, the building will house one of the most modern distribution centres in the electronics industry. Expected to be fully operational in 2011, the facility is intended to enhance product delivery efficiency increase levels of customer service.
According to Ludger Tillman, vp EMEA for Avnet Logistics: "The new logistics centre will dramatically increase our service flexibility and productivity and lead the way forward for Avnet's global logistics strategy in the 21st Century. We decided to build the new centre in Poing principally because of the extensive expertise already available on site, and the proximity to the Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA headquarters was an additional consideration."
Patrick Zammit, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing EMEA, added: "The new warehouse will increase the breadth of logistics services we can provide to customers and suppliers, while making our product handling more innovative and efficient. It will also underpin Avnet Electronic Marketing EMEA's growth strategies in the years to come."
