Gold Standard Simulations (GSS), a spin out from Glasgow University, has clinched a multimillion dollar contract under which it will license its complete TCAD/EDA tool suite to GlobalFoundries.
"The GSS simulation tools offer significant competitive technology CAD (TCAD) advantages that support technology development by providing a seamless flow from Monte Carlo transistor simulation through physical simulation of statistical variability, extraction of accurate statistical compact models, and circuit simulation," said Francis Benistant, GlobalFoundries' TCAD manager. "This integrated toolchain provides a highly efficient TCAD environment that greatly accelerates technology design and circuit cooptimisation, allowing GlobalFoundries to accelerate its technology development."
The GSS tool chain includes: GARAND, an 'atomistic' TCAD simulator; Mystic, a statistical compact model extractor; and RandomSpice, a statistical circuit simulator. It can be applied to a range of processes, including advanced bulk, FD-SOI and FinFET CMOS technologies.
"We are delighted to have GlobalFoundries as a customer, said Professor Asen Asenov, pictured, GSS' CEO. "I believe this relationship will prove to be highly symbiotic and will lead to advances in GlobalFoundries' technology offerings and in driving developments in the GSS tool chain."
