IBM in talks to buy Sun Microsystems
IBM is in talks to acquire Sun Microsystems, according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal is said to have been resolved after IBM offered Sun approximately $6.5billion.
According to the report, Sun has approached a number of large tech companies in the hopes of acquisition, with Hewlett Packard declining the offer.
If the deal goes through, it will be the biggest in IBM's history and the combination of the two companies would bolster IBM's presence on the internet, in software and telecommunications markets. The acquisition would also strengthen IBM's position against Hewlett Packard and could result in advanced computer systems being offered to corporate customers unattached to Microsoft's Windows software or Intel's microprocessor technologies.
