Imagination launches Whisper architecture for IoT applications
In a move designed to enable wearables, IoT and other connected devices that require ultra low power consumption and cost, Imagination Technologies has launched the Ensigma Series4 radio processing (RPU) architecture – which it is calling Whisper.
Tony King-Smith, Imagination's executive vp of marketing, said: "Many devices claiming to address IoT today are, in fact, repurposed from other markets such as mobile or embedded, but don't fully address the extreme low power and cost requirements this market will demand.
"With Whisper RPUs, customers can create a whole new generation of devices targeting markets as diverse as eHealth, energy, agriculture and security."
Whisper RPUs have been designed to offer configurability and power efficiency. According to Imagination, Whisper supports a range of lower bitrate connectivity standards, while optimising static and dynamic power consumption. The architecture is also said to be scalable and suitable for use in a wide range of applications.
