Imagination, Mentor bring open source support to MIPS developers

Imagination Technologies has extended its partnership with Mentor Graphics, supporting the use of the company's open source, embedded development tools for MIPS cpus.
Mentor's Sourcery CodeBench suite is a low cost, open source software platform that allows designers to accelerate the development cycle.
The tool suite provides a complete C/C++ development environment that includes an optimised GNU compiler and debugger.
As a result of the extended collaboration, Imagination says embedded developers programming for the MIPS architecture will benefit from a fully optimised implementation of all Sourcery CodeBench editions across all major members of the MIPS cpu family, from low end to high end.
"To continue to grow our ecosystem, and take the MIPS architecture to new heights, Imagination and Mentor have entered into a new multi-year agreement," said Amit Rohatgi, pictured, vp of marketing for Imagination. "Open source tools and technologies like Sourcery CodeBench are key drivers for proliferation of our IP.
"We will continue to work closely together with Mentor to optimise the toolchain and included components which will deliver added functionality and improved performance for new and existing MIPS cores."
