Industry first for National
Claimed to be an industry first in high speed, continuous time sigma delta (CTSD) data conversion technology, National Semiconductor has unveiled its ADC12EU050 eight channel, 12bit, 50Msample/s a/d converter.
Offering an alias free sample bandwidth up to 25MHz and consuming 30% less power than competing pipeline devices, the latest member of its PowerWise energy efficient family is said to provide a low power breakthrough that enables manufacturers to extend battery life and reduce heat in portable medical ultrasound and industrial imaging equipment.
“We are the first company to make available for production a standard a/d converter based on CTSD,” stated National’s European marketing and application manager Salvatore Napolitano (pictured). “This technology – which for many is still the subject of university and industry research – has for us become a reality.”
National plans to expand its CTSD a/d converter product offering for imaging, communications, and test and measurement applications that require high dynamic performance at extremely low power.
