Intel targets SoC at next generation consumer devices
Intel has unveiled an integrated media processor designed to sit at the heart of a new generation of consumer electronics devices, such as digital set top boxes and networked media players.
The Intel CE 2110 Media Processor includes a 1GHz Intel XScale cpu, Mpeg2 and H.264 hardware video decoders, a DDR2 memory interface and 2d/3d graphics accelerators. Supported by a modular software development environment, the platform also allows consumer electronics developers and manufacturers to deliver pure IP or hybrid set top boxes.
Already, Taiwanese service provider Chunghwa Telecom has adopted the processor for its Multimedia on Demand (MoD) service deployment.
