Kinetis MCU is ‘smaller than a golf ball dimple’
The world's smallest and most energy efficient 32bit MCU has been touted by Freescale.
The ARM Cortex-M0+ based Kinetis KL03 builds on the previous generation Kinetis KL02 device with new features and advanced integration. It's also 15% smaller.
Indeed, Freescale claims the device, available in a 1.6 x 2.0mm2 package, is smaller than a dimple in a standard sized golf ball.
The KL03 operates over a voltage range of 1.71 to 3.6V. It packs 32KB flash and 2KB RAM, as well as 8K ROM. Enhanced low power functionalities include register files, SRTC, low power UART and additional low power wake up pins.
Freescale is aiming the device at the Internet of Things market, and says it is particularly suitable for space constrained designs in the consumer, healthcare and industrial sectors.
