Low cost, low power consumption

Responding to the increasing demand for driving system level reductions in cost and power consumption, Analog Devices has launched the Blackfin BF51x series.
With the ability to handle dsp tasks as well as control processor tasks, the processor range consists of BF512, BF514, BF516 and BF518.
Like traditional dsps, the BF51x processors feature high clock rates (up to 400MHz) and low power dissipation per unit of processing and like traditional mcus, the processors are OS and compiler friendly.
The Blackfin BF51x family includes dynamic power management functionality, allowing developers to match the processor’s power consumption to processing requirements during program execution. Anders Frederiksen, industrial marketing manager, said that customer’s demands for lower power and high performance were balanced against cost. He stressed: “To face the customer challenges, we have focused on control – device drivers, system services and high level language, as well as good system integration – lower BoM costs, smaller sizes and lower cost barriers.”
The 16/32bit BF51x include 116kbit of ram plus an optional 4Mbit of serial flash memory. Each device integrates support for 16 stereo i2s digital audio channels, 12 peripheral DMA channels and an advanced memory controller for glueless connection to multiple banks of external sdram, sram or rom.
