MEMS oscillators offer lowest levels of jitter
IDT has launched the third family of MEMS oscillators to use its pMEMS technology and claims it offers the lowest levels of jitter for this type of component.
The company entered the frequency control market last year with its 4M series, followed earlier this year by the 4E series with four oscillators in one package. The new 4H family is said to reduce jitter to about 100fs and to reduce bit error rate in 10Gbit Ethernet switches, routers and related networking equipment.
Harmeet Bhugra, managing director of IDT's MEMS division, said: "These are our smallest resonators; passive devices that require no power and effectively mimic quartz. We can get very low insertion losses, which means better noise performance, and we can manufacture them reliably."
