New Atom processor for tablets unveiled by Intel
Intel has announced the availability of its Intel Atom processor Z670 based platform - formerly codenamed Oak Trail. The company says the platform will be in end user devices beginning next month. More than 35 designs from companies including Fujitsu, Lenovo and Motion Computing are based on the new technology and running a variety of operating systems.
The Z670 features integrated graphics and memory controller built directly into the processor die, lower TDP for fanless, thin devices, with a package 60% smaller than previous generations.
Purpose built for tablets, the platform has been designed to offer increased battery life and enhanced performance, primarily around video.
The series is also suited for a range of portable embedded designs such as mobile clinical assistants, ruggedised industrial tablets and portable point of sale systems.
