Nujira pushes efficiency of envelope tracking chips

Envelope tracking pioneer Nujira has unveiled the NCT-L1300, the latest in its Coolteq.L range of power supply modulator chips.
According to marketing director Jeremy Hendy, the chip offers better efficiency and bandwidth – 'it's the highest performance available from an envelope tracking chip by some way'. He also noted work had been done to make the interface more compatible with other chipsets. Nujira says the L1300's 80% efficiency will allow smartphone vendors to achieve 50% system efficiency with LTE signals.
The chip also features an advanced intelligent MIPI rf front end configuration and control interface for minimal programming overhead, supporting triggered and/or delayed writes, single-byte mode switching, and multiple mode configurations. Hendy said: "You can tell the chip to do something, but to wait for, say, 40µs."
Tracking voltages ranging from 0.5 to 4.5V, the L1300 supports power amplifier outputs of up to 29dBm. Attention has also been paid to the noise generated by the device. "Once you get to 20MHz," Hendy said, "the chip has to be fast, efficient and low noise."
