NXP targets industrial communications with mcu, CAN system in package
1 min read
NXP Semiconductors has introduced the LPC11C22 and LPC11C24 – described as t first integrated high speed CAN physical layer transceiver and microcontroller. The LPC11C22 and LPC11C24 are integrated with the TJF1051 CAN transceiver into a lqfp47 System in Package, providing what NXP claims is complete CAN functionality.
"Offering a highly optimised CAN solution in a single package simplifies industrial network design," said Geoff Lees, general manager of NXP's microcontroller product line. "The close coupling of transceiver and 32bit mcu with CANopen protocol support directly on chip extends our plug and play system approach."
Integrating the CAN transceiver increases reliability, reduces electrical interconnect and compatibility issues and reduces board space by more than 50%, while adding less than 20% to the mcu cost.
Designed around a 50MHz Cortex-M0 processor, the devices include a CAN PHY designed to support communications at rates of up to 1Mbit/s. Both are said to be suited to industrial applications, with electrostatic discharge protection, improved electromagnetic compatibility and low power operation.
CANopen drivers are provided in rom, with APIs enabling users to rapidly design the LPC11C22/C24 into CAN based embedded networking applications.
