ON Semiconductor has introduced what it claims to be the industry's first 3:1 high speed usb switch to support the new Mobile High Definition Link (MHL) interface standard for hd video and digital audio.
The NCN1188 is optimised to enable smartphones and other portable consumer electronics to connect with hd televisions for high speed content sharing. Two dedicated high speed data paths have been implemented to handle hd video transfer up to 720 progressive scan at 60fps and 1080 interlaced at 30fps. A multipurpose audio path with true ground capability down to -2V is also included.
"The continued convergence of consumer electronics and home entertainment devices drives the need for fast and intuitive connectivity," said Simon Keeton, vp for consumer products at ON Semiconductor. "The NCN1188 meets this demand, setting new performance benchmarks, increasing speeds, lowering device capacitance and offering 3:1 switching functionality."
Operable over a -40 to 125°C temperature range, the switch draws a current of 23uA and has an operating voltage range of between 2.7 and 5.5V. It has a typical on capacitance of 4.5pF and a typical off capacitance of 3pF.
