Packard Bell recalls defective batteries
Packard Bell has recalled a battery contained in some of its notebook computers due to defective battery cells that could potentially overheat and/or catch fire.
The voluntary safety recall affects Packard Bell's EasyNote MX36 (pictured), MX37, MX51 and MX52 notebook computers manufactured between July and December 2007. The affected units were mainly sold in Europe.
According to Packard Bell, while the battery cells contained in the affected units may experience internal short circuits, there is no risk of electrocution to the user and there have been no reports of injuries.
The company advisers end users of the notebook computers to visit the company's website or contact Packard Bell's service hotline at [0871 467 0008] to determine if their computer is affected by this recall. Additionally, as a precautionary measure, users of the affected computers are advised to remove the battery pack and operate the computer via the power cord.
