PICMG adopts MicroTCA.3 specification
Standards organisation PICMG has announced the adoption of the Hardened Conduction Cooled MicroTCA (MircoTCA.3) specification, which defines the requirements for systems that meet more stringent levels of temperature, shock and vibration.
According to vice president of technology Doug Sandy, the specification will enable the development and deployment of MicroTCA in more rugged environments such as outdoor telecom, military and shipboard, as well as other harsh mobile equipment environments.
"One important goal of the PICMG MicroTCA.3 working group was to demonstrate the ability of the system to meet extended environmental requirements," he said. "Successful testing of the MicroTCA connector system based on requirements from the MIL-STD-801 and RTCA/DO-160 standards combined with the adoption of this new specification opens harsher military and other rugged environments for MicroTCA."
