Power amp 'signifiantly reduces' costs claims RFMD
RF Micro Devices has launched an integrated 4.9 to 5.8GHz power amplifier in a 3 x 3mm package. The device has been designed to 'significantly reduce' its customers' costs.
The RF5616 is targeted for high performance mobile pc and embedded applications including access points, gateways, dsl routers, wireless high definition interface (WHDI), and wlan for wireless video distribution networks.
The device features a fully matched product design (input/output) and integrated low pass filtering to require only two external bypass components. It includes an integrated three-stage PA designed to provide high gain - according to RFMD, an industry first for 5GHz band front ends, as well as best-in-class efficiency.
Its voltage supply levels range from 3 to 5V, enabling linear output power of 18 to 21dBm and the device features an interstage power detector, said to reduce sensitivity to voltage supply, temperature extremes.
