Qualcomm unveils ‘Toq’ smartwatch

Amid a flurry of excitement about Samsung's Galaxy Gear, Californian chip maker Qualcomm has quietly unveiled Toq - an Android-exclusive smartwatch that features a reflective Mirasol display and wireless charging.

Due for release some time in Q4, Qualcomm says the watch will give users a 'digital sixth sense' - by enabling them to manage calls, text messages, music and meeting reminders. Like the Galaxy Gear, Toq is designed to serve as a second display to your Android smartphone. However, Qualcomm claims it offers three to five days of battery life, unlike the Gear which has to be charged every day. This is because it features the company's proprietary Mirasol display technology – a reflective, low power display that enables an always-on viewing experience without draining battery life. "Toq's always on, always connected, always visible wearable technology gives you a 'digital sixth sense,' telling you what you need to know, when you need to know it, with just a glance at your wrist or a whisper in your ear," said Dr Paul Jacobs, chairman and ceo of Qualcomm.
