Queen’s Awards 2012: Peratech succeeds in Innovation category with QTC technology

QTC enables the creation of Human Machine Interface (HMI) designs that react to variations in pressure. Metallic and non metallic filler particles are combined in an elastomeric binder and the electrical resistance drops in proportion to the amount of pressure applied, meaning force sensitive switches as thin as 75microns can be produced. The North Yorkshire company said its recently launched QTC Clear technology could enable a new generation of touch screens due to its three dimensional input interaction. David Lussey, Peratech's cto and founder, commented: "It is amazing to think that an experiment to find a conductive adhesive went wrong and resulted in the creation of QTC, which is now the basis for a British company that has millions of pounds worth of sales around the world. We are all honoured to receive this award because innovation is the one, undisputed thing that the British really excel at so the competition is intense." The Queen's Awards for Enterprise are highly prestigious and granted for outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of Innovation, International Trade and Sustainable Development.
