Renesas adds to 32bit mcu range
Renesas Electronics has added eight new devices to its J Series of mcus. Designed for low power, portable applications such as smart meters and healthcare equipment, the company claims the 32bit V850 microcontrollers achieve 'industry leading' low power consumption while providing large internal memory capacities.
The V850ES/JG3-L devices feature 1Mbyte of flash, 80kbyte of ram and four are equipped with a usb 2.0 interface to support communication. According to Renesas, portable measurement and monitor devices such as blood glucose meters can take advantage of the devices' low power to extend battery life and can use the large flash memory for data storage.
Integrated usb support is optimised to enable such healthcare systems to support patient doctor information exchange such as the Continua Alliance standard. The company claims the 32bit processing power can support graphic computation for different displays, from segmented lcd to dot matrix and oled.
