Samsung to invest $6billion in chips?
Samsung Electronics plans to invest around 7trillion won ($6.05bn) in its semiconductor business next year, according to information by a 'high ranking industry official'.
The source contacted the Korea Herald and stated that 5trillion won will be invested in dram technology, while 2trillion won will be pushed in nand Flash memory and system LSI. The figure quoted is a 75% jump from the projected 4trillion won investment plan announced earlier this year.
Samsung is the top manufacturer of both dram chips and nand flash memory chips, controlling 35.5% of the global dram market, and 39.3% of the nand market.
