Spansion takes #1 NOR spot
Spansion has displaced Intel as the leading NOR flash supplier, according to the latest rankings from iSuppli. The market watcher claims the NOR flash market in 2006 was worth $8.5billion, an increase of 8.1% over 2005.
Last year, Spansion grew its NOR revenue to $2.6billion, an increase of 25.6% over 2005. This growth in Spansion’s NOR revenues, combined with a decline in annual NOR revenue at Intel, caused Spansion to rise to top spot in the rankings. Intel dropped to second place, with a market share of 24.2%.
“Although the NOR flash memory market expanded in 2006, it turned out to be a tough year for suppliers,” said Mark DeVoss, iSuppli senior analyst. “While 2006 was not as brutal as 2005, when overall revenue declined by 15.5%, market conditions were still daunting.”
