Spansion has expanded its serial NOR flash portfolio with the launch of the FS-S range of high performance 1.8V devices, pictured.
With read speeds up to 133MHz in single, dual and quad I/O modes and 80MHz in DDR mode, the FS-S family is said to deliver throughputs of up to 80Mbyte/s, a rate claimed by Spansion to be 50% faster than competing solutions.
"There is a growing demand for lower voltage, high performance devices as increased functionality and features are added to a variety of low power devices," said Anup Sidhu, NOR product marketing director, Spansion. "The FS-S family provides the highest performance 1.8V serial NOR for new designs as well as for upgrades to existing solutions."
The FS-S family is said to be suitable for use in a broad range of applications, including network storage, tolling systems, automotive, smart meters, Bluetooth and other consumer devices. Currently available in 128Mbyte and 256Mbyte variants, Spansion will be expanding the family in the future.
The first devices are available in eight land wson (very very thin small outline), 8pin soic and 24ball bga packages, with the 256Mbyte device also available in a 16pin soic.
Meanwhile, Spansion has launched a family of spi flash memories with the highest read performance and smallest package footprint. Called the FL Dual-Quad SPI family, devices provide read throughputs of up to 160Mbyte/s. Available in 256Mbyte and 512Mbyte options and supplied in a 24ball bga, the devices are planned to enter production in the second quarter of 2014.
