Surfing the wave

Looking to take advantage of a predicted move to connected consumer devices, Toumaz has launched the TZ1090, or XENIF, a 32bit processor based SoC with integrated broadcast and connectivity.

Noel Hurley, Toumaz' chief operating officer, said: "Consumer electronics products, including dvd players and tvs, will be connected using Wi-Fi in the future. We have teamed with Imagination Technologies to create a product that meets the demand." The chip includes Imagination's dual thread META processor, as well as two optimised UCCP310 processors from EnSigma to handle Wi-Fi and digital radio demodulation. Alongside a range of connectivity options, the device can also run Linux or a real time operating system. Toumaz is now working on developing middleware and reference designs, ready for chip samples towards the end of October. Production is planned for 2011.
