Toshiba expands nand flash production with new fab
Toshiba is building an extension to its Yokkaichi Fab 5 in Japan to secure further manufacturing space for nand flah memories and 3d flash.
Construction is due to begin at the end of August this year and be completed in the summer of 2014. The Yokkaichi site currently has three fabs, including Fab 5, which went into operation in 2011.
"After giving careful consideration to the balance of product supply and demand, and noting a recovery driven by growing demand for smartphones, tablets, ssd for enterprise servers and other new applications, Toshiba now anticipates further medium to long term market expansion and recognises that the time is right to expand Fab 5," the company said in a statement.
