USB specialist ships 1billionth controller
Cypress Semiconductor has announced that it has shipped over 1billion usb controllers.
Cypress' said that as it was the first electronics supplier to provide high volume, flexible usb controllers, it had benefitted from growing consumer consumption. The overall market projection for usb enabled devices by 2013 is 4bn – mainly driven by its adoption in pc and consumer electronics applications.
Cypress' vice president of the usb business unit, Alakesh Chetia, said: "Cypress earned its market leadership position in usb's first decade by building a broad portfolio of products around customers' needs for PC peripherals applications. In the present, our newest MoBL-usb and West Bridge products are bringing usb to mobile phones and we offer devices optimised for automotive and industrial applications. We are committed to extending our leadership in the future with introductions of new technologies such as usb 3.0."
