World's fastest cpu clocked at 8.429GHz

AMD's FX chips have set a new world record for the fastest cpu, winning the company a place in the Guinness World Records.
The company's yet to ship Bulldozer based FX chips were overclocked at speeds up to 8.429GHz, beating the prior record of 8.309GHz.
"The record breaking processor speed that resides in the AMD FX cpu clearly demonstrates performance gains for the new AMD Bulldozer multi core architecture, which will provide x86 computing power for this cpu and future AMD accelerated processing units," said Chris Cloran, corporate vp and general manager, Client Group at AMD. "Along with world record frequencies, the AMD FX processor will enable an unrivaled enthusiast pc experience for the money – extreme multi display gaming, mega tasking and hd content creation."
Set to launch in Q4 2011, the AMD FX cpu is expected to deliver 'unprecedented' performance and scaling for x86 cpus. It is designed to compete with the new Intel I7 series and marks the first release of a new module by AMD since 2003.
