CamSemi has PSS controller for 7.5W designs
UK firm CamSemi has launched a new PSS controller for applications rated to 7.5W.
Targeted for use in low cost USB smartphone chargers, the C2172PX8 combines the company's patented bipolar transistor drive scheme with advanced PSS technology.
The device extends CamSemi's C2170 family of controllers, launched in June, which are optimised for applications to 4 and 6.5W.
David Baillie, company ceo, said: "CamSemi's new C2170 family of PSS controllers set a new benchmark for more cost efficient USB chargers.
"While the C2172PX8 extends the target applications to 7.5W, we continue to develop this superior approach to driving BJTs for yet higher power and efficiency and expect to introduce further products over the next few months."
The C2172PX8 is optimised for 'best in class' voltage regulation of +/-2% and current regulation of +/-3%, allowing more margin for thermal design (no-load power consumption is below 30mW).
