Control law accelerator boosts algorithmic performance
The TMS320F2803x and TMS320F2806x Piccolo microcontrollers from Texas Instruments have been upgraded with the addition of a C programmable integrated control law accelerator (CLA). Said to support higher levels of innovation, the CLA is a 32bit floating point math accelerator designed to offload complex, high speed control algorithms TMS320C28x cpu core to. This, says TI, frees the cpu to handle I/O and feedback loop metrics, boosting closed loop performance by up to five times. The CLA also provides direct access to on chip peripherals for parallel execution of algorithms to accelerate system response time and improve efficiency.
The F2803x range features enhanced pulse width modulators with a resolution of 150ps, a 12bit a/d converter and two 10MHz oscillators.
The F2806x range incorporates a Viterbi, complex math and crc unit in addition to the C28x core and the CLA. This provides 75 math instructions tailored to accelerate communications algorithm processing. Also features are USB 2.0 and CAN ports, a 16 channel, 3Msample/s 12bit a/d converter and three 10bit analogue comparators.
