Cree breaks 10,000lumen barrier with integrated led arrays

Cree has extended its XLamp CXA family of integrated led arrays to include two new higher light output devices, the CXA2540 and CXA3050.
Optimised to simplify designs and lower system cost, the devices are said to deliver 5,000 to over 10,000lumens respectively. Potential applications include high output track lights and downlights, outdoor area lighting and high bay lighting.
Cree says the CXA3050 can enable led replacements for up to 100W ceramic metal halide in spot lighting or up to 175W pulse start metal halide in high bay and outdoor area lighting.
In comparison, the CX2540 is optimised to deliver up to 20% higher efficacy at 5,000 lumens and 3000K than competing led arrays of similar size.
The device also shares the same mechanical package as the existing CXA2520 and CXA2530 leds, giving manufacturers access to the same connector and optics solutions currently available.
Samples of the new devices are available now, along with three reference designs. These include a PAR30 replacement, a 6in downlight and a track light for retail.
