DC/DC converters provide ‘rugged solution’

The unregulated PEM series of board mountable dc/dc converters from CUI has been designed to improve efficiency and thermal performance. The 1W/2W family is said to offer a rugged and reliable solution for converting and isolating dc rails within a range of applications, such as medical, industrial control, security and telecom systems.

The efficiency of the second generation family is said to reach 89% – a 5% increase compared to the previous generation. By limiting the power draw under light and no load conditions, the performance across the entire load curve has been improved while dissipated heat has been reduced. Housed in a 7pin SIP measuring 19.6 x 7 x 10mm, the devices have nominal inputs of 3.3, 5, 12, 15, and 24V dc (±10%) with output voltages of 3.3, 5, 9, 12, 15, 24, ±5, ±12, ±15, and ±24V dc available. To provide extra protection for sensitive loads, the PEM family comes with continuous short circuit protection and antistatic protection to 8 kV. The developer says the parts feature 3kV dc I/O isolation and can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 105°C.
