Intel unveils low power 64bit Atom for server applications
Intel has unveiled the Atom S1200 product family, which it describes as a low power 64bit server class SoC aimed at high density microservers, as well as a new class of energy efficient storage and networking systems.
Diane Bryant, general manager of Intel's Datacenter and Connected Systems Group, said: "We recognised several years ago the need for a new breed of high density, energy efficient servers and other datacentre equipment.
"Today, we are delivering the industry's only 6W SoC that has key datacentre features."
The x86 compatible S1200 product family includes two physical cores and four threads enabled with Intel Hyper Threading Technology.
The SoC also includes 64bit support, a memory controller supporting up to 8Gbyte of DDR3 memory, Intel Virtualization Technologies, eight PCI Express 2.0 lanes and error correcting code support. There are three processors with frequency ranging from 1.6GHz to 2GHz.
The S1260 has a thermal design power (TDP) of 8.5W, the S1240 has a TDP of 6.1W and the S1220 consumes 8.1W.
