Mainframe blues
T3 Technologies has filed a complaint with the European Commission accusing IBM of ‘abusing its monopoly power in the mainframe industry.’
The self-styled 'other mainframe company' said that IBM had tied the sale of its operating system to its mainframe hardware and accused the world’s largest technology services company of withholding patent licenses and other intellectual property to the detriment of mainframe purchasers in Europe.
A statement from T3’s website said that while IBM controls 99% of all existing IBM compatible mainframes in use today, ‘only IBM now offers IBM compatible mainframes.’
T3 is also taking separate action against UBM in the US, where it claims its operations were forced to close down due to IBM’s dominance in the market.
