Renesas unveils two new product groups in R8C/Lx series of mcus

Expanding its range of 16bit mcus, Renesas Electronics Europe has introduced the R8C/LAxA within its R8C/Lx series. The new products are designed to offer strong peripheral functions and minimum display capability along with ultra low power consumption. The R8C/LA3A and LA5A mcus comprise of two groups with 32 and 52 pins integrating up to 64KB of programmable flash memory.
The groups are available in low profile quad flat packages with 32 pins (7 x 7mm) and 52 pins (10 x 10mm) with lcd capability up to 24 segments x 4 common. Segments or IO ports are software selectable by every port and provide flexible port usability with the smallest pin counts of Renesas' range of mcus with an lcd controller.
Renesas' first 1.8V E/W Flash memory, including the data flash area and code area, enables users to programme the systems in the fields even at the end of the system's life. The a/d conversion, which is available from 5.5 down to 1.8V, broadens the operating range, especially for sensor applications. In addition, the groups offer power down modes designed to minimise power consumption while the system is idle.
Sample shipments of the first products are scheduled to begin in Q2 2011. Potential applications include battery powered devices, healthcare devices and industrial equipment.
