ST joins IBM Alliance
STMicroelectronics is to join the IBM CMOS Technology Alliance, where it will work with IBM to develop 32 and 22nm cmos process technology.
As part of the agreement, ST will establish bulk cmos R&D teams in IBM’s Semiconductor R&D Centers in East Fishkill and Albany, whilst IBM will establish an R&D team at ST’s Crolles facility, where the two companies will develop a variety of value added derivative technologies, such as embedded memory and analogue/rf.
“ST has made the strategic decision to focus more of its R&D resources on developing value added derivatives that capitalise on our extensive know how in system orientated technologies,” said Laurent Bosson, ST’s executive vice president for front end technology and manufacturing.
The jointly developed processes will be ramped into volume at ST's 300mm Crolles fab as well as in the Common Platform manufacturers’ 300mm facilities, which includes IBM.
