Start up develops large area printable electronics
Nanotechnology research specialist IMEC has joined forces with Hasselt University and Belgian screen printing company, Artist Screen, to launch a spin off company which will develop large area screen printed electronics.
Lumoza's technology focuses on combining electroluminescent ink with a driver that controls the sequence and timing of an animation. The result is an electroluminescent computer animation that can be printed on any surface and afterwards can be folded, bended or wrapped. Typical applications would be advertising and the packaging sector. Both IMEC and Hasselt University have previously researched printable electronics, while Artist Screen is experienced in printing on pvc.
Wouter Moons, ceo of Lumoza, said: "Both [the advertising and packaging markets] are continuously looking for innovative products. The dvd packaging industry has already shown interest as they are looking for new appealing packaging alternatives. On the longer term, more sustained applications are envisioned, for example in the construction industry."
