Audio/video front end from Analog Devices

Analog Devices has unveiled an audio/video (AV) front end chip developed to enable cinema quality sound and pictures in home theatre designs.
According to ADI, the ADV7850 allows designers to deliver high end AV feature sets in home entertainment applications and contains the first integrated HDMI receiver to support THX Media Director embedded metadata, using multiple Vendor Specific Infoframes. This facilitates implementation into Blu-ray players, AV receivers, tvs and projectors.
THX Media Director transforms movies, music, games and other digital media into 'smart' content that enables AV components to autoselect the most appropriate audio and video playback settings.
The device features a 3d comb video decoder with an integrated 170MHz video and graphics digitiser for hd 1080p input formats. The AV front end's 3d comb video decoder is designed to offer high processing resolution for motion detection and 3d comb filtering operations.
Incorporating its proprietary Xpressview fast switching HDMI technology, ADI says the front end integrated four key components, including a graphics and video digitiser, 3d comb video decoder and stereo audio codec. The ADV7850 supports HDPC repeater applications and can also be operated as an HDMI transceiver.
The front end chip is compatible with other ADI components, such as the Advantiv digital crosspoint switches, Backfin and SHARC processors.
